Mark Water Pumps Limited (MWPL) was well represented at Wales Rally GB this year, as Plant Manager David Lewis was invited by the Welsh Government to attend the landmark sporting event. David was joined by Tim Williams, the Chief Executive of the Welsh Automotive Forum and John Vaughan, Business Development Manager for the Welsh Government, who is responsible for bringing world-class rallying to Wales.

PROFLOW goes off-road with Wales Rally GB

Our PROFLOW range of OEM-quality water pumps services a substantial number of road-going versions of the rally cars we saw on stage, so it was great to see them racing in the Welsh countryside at maximum attack

Motorsport fans were treated to an enthralling weekend of motorsport, which saw Sebastien Ogier in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta hold off a resurgent Jari-Matti Latvala in his Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris to claim victory – further strengthening his World Rally Championship (WRC) title challenge. In the WRGB National Rally, held in tandem with the WRC Championship, Andrew Gallacher and co-driver Jane Nicol finished first in their Ford Focus WRC with an overall time of 1:29:46.9.

‘It was an honour to be invited by the Welsh Government to the event, which is an unmissable date on the calendar for motorsport fans,’ says David. ‘After spending time with John and Tim, we headed out onto the stages, which with a mix of damp and dry conditions, presented plenty of challenges for the drivers. Our PROFLOW range of OEM-quality water pumps services a substantial number of road-going versions of the rally cars we saw on stage, so it was great to see them racing in the Welsh countryside at maximum attack.”

Rally legends entered at Wales Rally GB supported by the PROFLOW range include peerless 90’s and 00’s icons, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru Impreza; as well as older rallying classics such as the tail happy Ford Escort MKI and MKII, the Toyota Celica of Carlos Sainz fame and the achingly desirable Datsun 240Z. Those with shorter memories in the sport will spot support for more current machinery such as the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia and the Citroen DS3.

‘The standards required in the aftermarket offer some parallels with motorsport,’ David continues. ‘In all cases at MWPL we look to deliver an OEM quality part that offers equal or improved performance. While there are many more demands in rallying, both water pumps for road and rally cars must be as reliable as possible.’
